The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), through the Capability Building on Innovative Leadership for Legislative Staff (CBILLS) program, held its second face-to-face Learning Module on “Personal and Team Development” for the Emerging Leaders Track on June 26 to 28 at the First Pacific Leadership Academy in Antipolo City. The module aimed to aid participants in realizing their highest potential by making personal and professional transformations covering the principles of individual, team, and organizational human behavior.
Modified from its previous run in 2018, the module consisted of learning sessions, group discussions, and end-of-day reflections that equipped the participants with tools for developing personal efficacy and addressing its impact on leadership. Ms. Ma. Victoria Alcoseba, Chief Operating Officer and Subject Matter Specialist for Strategic HRMD at Meraki Consulting, Inc., served as the resource person throughout the residential training.
The Personal Development sessions focused on understanding individuals to build an effective organizational culture. It explored human motivation, attitudes, and personal efficacy theories. A session on self-mastery was also conducted wherein the participants utilized personality inventories such as the elements, enneagram, and MBTI. The second training day focused on leadership intelligence and identifying one’s style for better interpersonal relationships.
An outdoor activity was commenced to formally introduce the sessions on Team Development. Ms. Alcoseba remarked that the main point of the activity is cooperation, which the participants successfully demonstrated. This was followed by a discussion on the stages of team development and the characteristics of a high-performance team. The last day of the training emphasized resilience among leaders in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) world.
The module concluded through an integration and closing activity where the participants developed a roadmap that detailed their action steps to enhance and maintain, as well as steps to acquire and develop in their personal and professional lives. The participants also created Coats of Arms, representing their personal symbols.
The Emerging Leaders Track under the CBILLS program is a customized set of learning interventions designed for the legislative staff and officers of different offices from the House of Representatives of the Philippines and Senate of the Philippines. This year, a total of 41 participants are enrolled in the track.
